Sound Healing is an effective and proven modality that uses vibrational sound to help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace, well being and better health. Sound has also been shown to be a vital part of the healing process for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and side effects especially for pain relief management.

During our waking state, the normal frequency of our brain waves is that of Beta. Sound tools entrain the brain to move into the deeper Alpha and Theta brain wave frequencies. These are the frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind and intuition. Modern medicine can now measure and thus confirm the practice of sound as a means to promote healing. (see sound healing questions answered for more info on this) Thus, sound is a type of energy medicine that creates the sacred space in which people can heal from stress disorders, pain, depression, the emotional roller coaster and more.

I believe in integrated health services so in addition to the vibrational healing initiated by sound, my sessions include Polarity therapy, visualizations and life coaching. This combination creates a true body, mind, spirit connection so vital to natural healing. Polarity is a gentle type of energetic healing modality that uses healing hands on meridian points, for foot reflexology and craniosacral techniques. It promotes chakra healing, remove.

How does it work? Ancient instruments, including Tibetan singing bowls are 'struck and sung' in specific rhythmic patterns to create vibrational sound harmonics at the frequency of "AUM" or "OM". This sound frequency known as that of Perfection impacts the sympathetic nervous system as your brain waves synchronize to the vibrations of the bowls. The harmonic vibrations engage the relaxation reflex and slow down the respiratory, brain and heart rate and disrupt the pain reflex creating a deep sense of well being. Some work with gongs, toning, color and visualizations may be integrated into your session to help move energy. In every case, Diane strongly refers to the clients inner wisdom to help in the healing process.

What are the benefits? Among the many are relief from pain, stress- related conditions and the ability to alter ones consciousness. It is an integral part of healing the effects of chemotherapy, reduces pain and discomfort from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and depression, After sessions clients experience improved memory, clarity, vitality and the ability to take action. Many report out of body experiences, a deep sense of tranquility, sleep soundly and feel the effects of the treatment for several days.

What are sessions like? Sessions last one hour and take place fully clothed on a mat on the floor. Bowls are placed and played all around your body, head and on your charkras(energy centers). Clients are asked to wear comfortable clothing without buttons, zippers or jewelry. After the session you are offered a refreshing drink before you go home.

What is a Distance Session? For those who live outside the area, we use the telephone with headphones for effective sound healing sessions that include visualization. Call or email me for more information.

How many sessions will I need? I recommend as a minimum, 4 weekly consecutive sessions followed by 2 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart. It takes at least 4 weeks to change a habit or form a new one. The first couple of sessions often produce energetic and physical discharge the releasing of blocks, stressors and toxins. They allow us to also develop a trusting relationship so you can better relax and receive the maximum benefits of the session. The next several sessions are dedicated to strengthening and anchoring you to the sound of the bowls creating a strong alignment focused on your particular area of need. I also introduce some focused dialog and/or visualizations that allows you to get in touch with areas of challenge or positive intentions while you are in an 'altered state'. This creates a strong mind/body connection and improves the ability to heal. After the initial sessions we eveluate your progress and needs. In order to maintain this alignment, most people benefit from a tune up visit several times a year..

Can people who feel fine benefit from a session? Yes, very much so. People have used the Tibetan Bowls for centuries to alter their consciousness and attain deeper meditative states. Many clients also treat themselves to a session to gain clarity on an issue, re-vitalize and just feel great and even more connected to the universe.

Should I do anything between sessions? Drink water, pay attention to shifts that occur and listen to the CD of the bowls or play your bowl if you have one. Other recommendations are offered on an individual basis.

What is the cost of a session? This depends on the number of sessions you have.

Sound Healing Questions Answered

What does the sound from the bowls actually do? Simply put, it puts your physical, emotional, and spiritual energies back into alignment. When these energies are aligned, the needed energy balancing or chakra balancing creates the perfect container for healing.

What is the difference between old and new Himalayan (Tibetan) Singing Bowls and crystal bowls?

Ancient singing bowls come from different areas in the Himalayan mountain range, such as Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal. Although their exact age is not known, many of them have been dated back hundreds of years. Made out of a consecrated 7 metal alloy prayers and mantras were chanted to them during the process of their creation. So, these bowls have the sacred energy of the prayers imbued in them. Additionally, the old bowls were made with the intention of healing or transforming consciousness.

The role of 'intention' in healing is a strong one. When combined with sound, intention, in the form of mantras, prayer or affirmation( such as om or aum) can greatly increase the vibrations and thus effect the healing. (click here for photo).

The new bowls that come from India or Nepal are machine made and lack any of the ritual, ceremony or sacred aspects of the old bowls. They are made with the intention of commerce. This is not to say that some of these new bowls can't sound good. Many do have beautiful tones and can even be good healing tools. But as a healer, I prefer to use tools that have the highest vibration and a history of healing energy, so I use the old bowls even though they are more expensive.

Another important aspect of the Himalayan bowls is that they work on a fundamental level. That is, their vibrations work on all levels (spiritual, physical and emotional) so they treat the whole being rather than just one energy center or part of the body. Many people report that in additon to pain relief and they come off of the emotial roller coaster and feel a deeper sense of happiness and wellbeing.

The crystal bowls are made by pulverizing crystals found in the earth. Each bowl is fashioned to be in sync with one specific area of the body. In this way they can be useful when addressing a particular area or condition in the body and can work well when combined with Tibetan bowls. I am more of a purist and prefer to only use the old Himalayan bowls because of the the sacred process in which they were made and the fact that they address all levels of healing.

How do the vibrations from the singing bowls help in the healing process? It is my belief that all disease is, at its core, a mis-alignment of energies. I also believe that our cells, muscles and organs store blocked energy from past and present mis-alignment and this manifests as dis-ease or disease. There is only so much one can do by thinking and talking. Energetic work such as vibrational sound that directly accesses the cellular memory is needed to release blocked energy and bring the body back into alignment. In a sense it creates the conditions in which healing can take place and in doing so speeds up the process.
